Donald German is lucky enough to be twice retired, first from Baltimore County and the second from the US Army Reserve, of which he spent the last 10 years on active duty. He entered this period of active duty service as a vessel master and retired as the Maritime Training and Standards Officer for the Army. As a vessel master, he had a lot of time to practice celestial navigation, getting a great deal of satisfaction from teaching celestial navigation. After retiring from the Army, he began to volunteer at Tellus Science Museum where his expertise in celestial navigation soon made him realize he was most comfortable operating the planetarium, the observatory and teaching students and the general public about space. He is now looking forward to being able to learn more from the NASA professionals, giving him in-depth knowledge that he can share with others.
